Gameplay
Throne of the Bone King is a decision-driven kingdom management game starring BLB, the Bone Lord Bob, seated upon his cosmic throne. Each day, petitioners enter the throne room with strange, funny, tragic, dangerous, or absurd problems. The player, as BLB, decides how each case should be resolved.
Every decision matters. A solved problem may reward the player with resources, damage relationships, improve territory stability, create future problems, or alter the world map. The throne room is the heart of the game, but the consequences of BLB's rulings ripple outward across cities, towns, homesteads, factions, and resource networks.
The core fantasy is simple:
Sit on the throne. Hear the problems. Make the ruling. Live with the consequences.
Core Gameplay Loop
The player begins each day in the throne room. A rotating set of petitioners arrives with problems that require BLB's judgment. These petitioners may represent individuals, villages, factions, minions, merchants, enemies, or strange supernatural forces.
Each petitioner presents a case. The player chooses how BLB responds.
A ruling may affect:
- BLB's current resources
- Future petitioner events
- Minion strength and availability
- Bone production
- Milk production
- Faction trust
- Territory stability
- World map conditions
- Long-term story branches
After throne room decisions are made, the player may interact with the world map. The world map shows BLB's territory and the surrounding settlements, including NPC cities, towns, homesteads, and faction-controlled regions.
The player uses available resources to influence the map, stabilize settlements, expand control, recover damaged economies, or prepare for future threats.
Primary Resources
The early economy is built around three core resources.
Bone Total
Bones are the foundation of BLB's kingdom. They are used to create minions, improve minion quality, maintain skeletal infrastructure, and reinforce BLB's power.
If bone production drops, BLB's ability to grow or replenish his forces becomes weaker.
Bones are especially important when the player needs more minions or stronger minions.
Minion Total
Minions are BLB's workforce, army, labor pool, and general problem-solving engine. They can be sent to gather milk, support settlements, enforce rulings, defend territory, or assist with special events.
If minion count drops too low, BLB loses the ability to act effectively on the world map.
Minions depend on bones. More bones allow BLB to create more minions and improve the quality of existing ones.
Cases of Milk
Milk is one of BLB's most important stabilizing resources. It can be sent to cities or settlements to improve bone quality and bone quantity over time. Milk also supports the kingdom's strange economy and may be used to maintain morale, feed certain minions, satisfy petitioners, or trigger special events.
If milk production falls too low, BLB must assign more minions to milk generation.
Milk depends on minions. More minions allow BLB to produce more milk.
Resource Triangle
The basic economy uses a rock-paper-scissors style relationship between Bones, Minions, and Milk.
Bones create Minions.
Minions produce Milk.
Milk improves Bone production.
This creates a circular dependency where each resource supports another. The player must keep the system balanced.
If one resource collapses, the others may begin to weaken over time.
For example:
If a city is not producing enough bones, BLB can send more milk. Over time, this improves the quality and quantity of bones produced by that city.
If BLB's minion count is too low, he needs more bones to create more and better minions.
If BLB's milk count is too low, he needs more minions to produce more milk.
The player's challenge is to decide which shortages are temporary, which are dangerous, and which settlements deserve support.
Throne Room Petitioners
Petitioners are the main event system of the game. Each day, a rotating set of petitioners appears before BLB. Their problems may be random, scripted, AI-assisted, or generated from previous player decisions.
Petitioners may ask for:
- Resources
- Protection
- Judgment
- Punishment
- Forgiveness
- Trade support
- Military aid
- Minion labor
- Milk shipments
- Bone rights
- Settlement repairs
- Faction favors
- Moral or comedic rulings
Each case gives the player multiple possible rulings. These choices are not simply "good" or "evil." They may benefit one group while harming another, solve a short-term problem while creating a long-term risk, or reward the player immediately while destabilizing part of the map.
Daily Rotational Seed
The petitioner system runs on a daily rotational seed.
Each day's petitioners are influenced by:
- Random event generation
- Previous throne room decisions
- Current world map conditions
- Resource shortages
- Faction relationships
- Territory stability
- AI event rotation
This allows the game to feel reactive. The same world should not produce the same petitioners every day. A settlement ignored by the player may return later with a worse problem. A faction rewarded earlier may send gifts or requests. A bad ruling may create a chain of escalating consequences.
The throne remembers.
World Map
The world map represents BLB's territory and the surrounding regions. It shows cities, towns, homesteads, faction zones, and other important locations.
The player can use the world map to:
- Send milk to struggling settlements
- Assign minions to production tasks
- Support bone-producing cities
- Stabilize damaged regions
- Respond to faction needs
- Expand BLB's influence
- Prepare for future petitioner events
- Manage resource chains
The world map is not separate from the throne room. It is the visible consequence layer of BLB's decisions.
A ruling made in the throne room can change the map.
A problem on the map can create new petitioners.
Decision Consequences
Every decision may create rewards, penalties, or delayed consequences.
Possible outcomes include:
- Gain bones
- Lose bones
- Gain minions
- Lose minions
- Gain milk
- Lose milk
- Improve a city's production
- Damage settlement trust
- Increase faction loyalty
- Create future enemies
- Unlock special petitioners
- Trigger world map events
- Change resource production over time
Some decisions may appear harmless at first but become important later. Others may create immediate chaos but solve a deeper problem.
BLB's rule is shaped by accumulation. The kingdom becomes the sum of the player's judgments.
Visual Style
The visual identity of Throne of the Bone King is built around BLB's signature cosmic aesthetic.
Primary colors:
- Cosmic purple
- Deep blue
- Bone white
- Gold accents
The throne room should feel supernatural, royal, strange, and slightly absurd. BLB is a cosmic skeleton monarch, so the world should balance dark fantasy with comedy.
The UI and world presentation should use purple and blue as the dominant colors, with white and gold used for outlines, borders, icons, resource counters, and divine or royal emphasis.
The tone should feel like:
Cosmic throne room meets undead kingdom simulator meets absurd royal court comedy.
Design Pillars
Judgment Creates Consequence
The player should feel that every ruling matters. Even funny or small decisions can echo into future events.
Resources Are Interdependent
Bones, minions, and milk form a circular economy. The player must balance them rather than simply stockpile one resource.
The Map Reacts
The world map should visually reflect the consequences of throne room decisions.
Comedy and Strategy Coexist
The game should be funny, but the underlying systems should still matter. A ridiculous petitioner may still create a serious strategic problem.
BLB Is the Center
Everything flows through BLB's throne. He is the judge, ruler, resource allocator, and cosmic skeleton problem-solver.
